Ten Ducks

On 22nd July 2006 Goldsborough Cricket Club made the national sports headlines…for all the wrong reasons.

In a 2nd Team game against local rivals Dishforth, the club recorded the worst defeat in cricket history since 1931. Every batsman was out for a duck and the team’s total score of 5 was all in extras!

Some of the headlines from the time:
Cricketers turn scoreboard into a duckboard – The Telegraph (26 July 2006)
Village cricket team are a bunch of lame-ducks – The Daily Mail (26 July 2006)

But, in 2011 Goldsborough had the chance of a re-match sponsored by Natwest Cricket Force.

This was Goldsborough’s opportunity to make amends for the earlier defeat and this time we had a secret weapon on our team…England Ashes winning captain Michael Vaughan playing in disguise!
